Dr. Theroux is a licensed psychologist, working in private practice since 1995. As a therapist, she specializes in the helping individuals with depression, anxiety, chronic pain, eating disorders and addictive behaviors. She helps individuals identify and express difficult emotions, enabling them to be authentic and kind at the same time. This is no easy feat! It is a lifelong journey that never ends. The journey begins with self-awareness, as many of us are not even aware of our thoughts and feelings, especially at the moment they occur.
To assist in the development of self awareness, Dr. Theroux teaches 8-week classes in mindfulness-based practices. She is certified to teach Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and trained to teach Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC).
Once some self-awareness is established, we can then communicate our thoughts and feelings, when appropriate, with others. To assist in helping others (and herself) to do this, Dr. Theroux uses the practice of Nonviolent Communication, created by Marshall Rosenberg, PhD. She is currently a registered Center for Nonviolent Communication (CNVC) Certification candidate and hopes to become a certified NVC facilitator by 2026.
Passionate advocates for improving self-care among health care professionals, Drs. Theroux and Fichera were an APA continuing education sponsor for several years, providing continuing education credits to hundreds of healthcare professionals (nurses, psychologists, mental health counselors, marital-family therapist, social workers) in over 15 states across the country.
