                            Sharon M. Theroux, Ph.D., ABPP

                            Dr. Theroux became a licensed psychologist in 1996.  She practices in the fields of Clinical Psychology, Health Psychology, and Clinical Neuropsychology.

                            In the area of Clinical Psychology, Dr. Theroux treats individuals and couples who struggle with depression, anxiety, marital discord, personality disorders, addictions, and eating disorders. Her therapeutic orientation is eclectic, utilizing components of psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and emotion focused therapies.  She was the out-patient relapse prevention group leader at the Renfrew Center, a nationally acclaimed treatment program for eating disordered individuals.

                            Regarding the field of Clinical Neuropsychology, Dr. Theroux evaluates individuals with brain-related disorders, such as head trauma, stroke, dementia, ADHD, and Learning disabilities. Her interest in the field of clinical neuropsychology began with her 10 years of experience as a critical care registered nurse (CCRN). Seeing the impact of disease and trauma on cognitive functioning, first hand, makes it easier to understand the complexities of human brain function. She is board certified in Clinical Neuropsychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology, and she received the Nelson Butters Award for Contributions to Clinical Neuropsychology by the National Academy of Neuropsychology.

                            In the field of Health Psychology, Dr. Theroux helps individuals and families of those who struggle with physical maladies, such as chronic pain, Fibromyalgia, dementia, obesity, and emotional overeating.  She believes strongly in the importance of mindful meditation to reduce stress, depression, chronic pain, emotional overeating, and anxiety.  She assists her clients in making healthy choices with regard to how they eat, exercise and feel.  She is an AFAA certified group fitness instructor, and helps individuals incorporate exercise into their daily routine. She is a member of the medical staff at Broward General Medical Center, where she helps patients attain their health and fitness goals.

                            In 2011, Dr. Theroux launched her "Steps to Mindful Living" TM Program, a series of mindfulness-based groups that focus on: 

                            1. Weight Management (MB-FIT)


                            2. Prevention of Depression Relapse (MBCT)

                            3. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
