What is MBSR?
MBSR is based on the practice of mindfulness. The key to mindfulness is a non-judgmental awareness that enables you to respond with greater clarity, stability, and understanding to life's stressors, rather than reacting in unhealthy ways.

Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D. pioneered MBSR at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in 1979, and this program is highly respected in the medical community, with classes in over 200 hospitals nationwide.

The program consists of 8 weekly two and 1/2 hour morning or evening classes, and a one-day retreat (on a weekend) between classes 6 and 7. Participants who complete the course enhance their ability to relax, focus and concentrate, respond rather than react to life's stressors, reduce anger, cope with chronic pain, live in the moment, find balance, and access inner resources of strength and wisdom. MBSR may be beneficial for the following conditions and concerns: stress, medical conditions (e.g., chronic pain, high blood pressure, fibromyalgia, cancer, heart disease, asthma, GI distress, skin disorders), psychological conditions (e.g., anxiety, panic, depression, fatigue, sleep disturbance), and prevention and wellness.
